Waste III

I did write a nice long blog post on the train, but I’m not comfortable with it yet, so I’m going to sleep on it. Besides, I’m tired of using my terabyte external hard drive to transfer files from my netbook to my laptop. However, I will leave you with this little nugget.

In the first month of Montgomery County’s bag tax of 5 cents per disposable bag, the county collected $154,000. That’s 3.8 million plastic bags, according to the Washington Post. My math puts it at 3.08 million bags, but perhaps they are subtracting administrative expenses. That works out to 4 disposable bags per person, and that’s after most of the county switched to reusable bags. I shudder to think how many pieces of garbage, er, bags people were using before.
